Accessible Black Lives Matter Protest

Hi everyone, my name is Juliana Good and I am part of a team raising funds for an accessible Black Lives Matter protest scheduled for June 19th (just a week away!) in Portsmouth, NH. Disabled people have as much of a right to participating in democracy as anyone in this country, and none of the protests in my area have been accessible. We are raising funds for the following things:
-ASL Interpreters
-Water/Snacks/First Aid supplies
-Sign making materials
-A large banner
I would love the opportunity to lift up Black voices in our community in a way that can be understood by everyone! As a Deaf person, protesting has been difficult-- I have not been able to understand what speakers are saying even with adequate amplification, and the fear that I will miss something going on around me because I cannot hear it is a safety concern for myself and other Deaf community members. Hiring sign language interpreters, planning a wheelchair-friendly route, and giving people the opportunity to participate from their cars or from home via a livestream means that people who have not been able to fully participate in past protests will now be able to.
I hope you will join me in supporting this important movement. Now more than ever, Black community members need our support; by supporting this protest, you are ensuring that an often forgotten community of people can be allies rallying in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Thank you!
