Académie Franco-Louisianaise de Sunset (AFS) is a free public charter French-immersion elementary school located in the town of Sunset, Louisiana. At its capacity, the school will provide PK-5th grade students in Saint Landry Parish rigorous academic, linguistic, and cultural experiences while building upon the region’s French-speaking heritage. Students who graduate from AFS will be globally competent, college-and-career bound, and bilingual, bi-literate French speakers.
Given the cultural loss that our region is experiencing and the lack of equity for French Immersion education in our parish, we believe that our school will provide a long-overdue service to both our students and to our larger community.
As a public charter school, we are responsible for every single dollar of our start-up costs, which include facility rental and renovation, student books and curriculum, furniture, administrative salaries, and more.

Our future school: Académie Franco-Louisianaise de Sunset has partnered with the city of Sunset to lease the former Sunset High School building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Until the rehabilitation is complete, AFS will be on a temporary campus in Sunset.
