As several of you know, I have been given the honor of being selected to serve with International Justice Mission in Guatemala, a small country in Central America, for the year 2014. IJM is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 by Gary Haugen, former U.N. investigator and U.S. State Department lawyer. The organization is a group of investigators, social workers and lawyers who use a biblical foundation of justice to provide legal and aftercare services for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and violent oppression in more than 15 different field offices around the globe. In response to Guatemala's violent history of Spanish conquest and civil war which has brought incredible corruption to political institutions, IJM Guatemala focuses on their country's largest need: aiding sexually abused children.
So, why am I going? The citizens there have little faith in the legal protection of basic human rights. As the great Martin Luther King, Jr. says, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." I am not going to save them, I am going to help them in their struggle because I believe that my liberation is somehow wrapped up in theirs. I will work under the Guatemalan Field Office executive director and develop cross-cultural, Spanish language and administrative skills in an effort to bring tangible change to the Guatemalan legal system.

Lastly, I would like you to prayerfully consider financially supporting me. Although this internship will further my future career as well as grow and challenge me spiritually, it does not come with a salary or stipend. Donations (which are tax deductible using this site) will go toward providing me with food, housing, transportation, international insurance, and other basic living expenses. I've struggled with how to reach out to my network for funding, especially since asking people for money comes with various levels of awkwardness. However, I've never felt more called to do anything else, and I'm confident that what I'm asking for will enable you to come alongside me in making a difference. Will you support my cause with a monthly financial commitment or gift today?
