Developing environmental advocates

Hello, I am an innovative science teacher and National Honor Society sponsor at a high school in Austin, TX. I have the honor and privilege of influencing and inspiring our next generation of young innovators. I believe it is our responsibility as educators to help create global citizens. One way that I do this is by bringing the world to my students and providing opportunities for them to gain experience through service learning and community projects. Currently, there is an international progression creating economic viability in environmental sustainability called The Blue Economy. The basic premise of this movement is to bridge the gap between those that have great ideas about preserving our environment, and entrepreneurs willing and ready to implement those ideas. The Blue Economy is that guideline for the next generation of entrepreneur advocates. Help send me to Hungary to get Blue Economy Certified so I can absorb all that is being offered, translate and apply it in our communities, and teach others to apply it.

In his inauguration speech, Nelson Mandela quoted Marianne Williamson by saying, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world…” It is this sentiment that I instill in my students as a science educator and one that I take on as a person moving forward to effect a change I see is missing in my community. My intention is to create a global awareness one community at a time; to learn, then to teach what it is to look forward, making long term goals that work for our planet. I want to create and be surrounded by innovators.
