Study Abroad: Spanish and Healtcare

Hi, my name is Tia N. Carter. I am a sophomore Biology Pre-Medicine major with a minor in Chemistry at Xavier University of Louisiana. I am raising money to fund a study abroad program in Costa Rica to study the Spanish language and culture, in addition to clinical practicum. The course is worth 5 university credits. The Spanish course will cover practical language skills used in clinical settings to actively interact with Spanish speaking patients. I am interested in taking this course so that I will make a positive impact in the healthcare industry to minimize language barriers with increasing numbers of Limited English Proficiency individuals. The clinical practicum will consist of 4-5 hours of observing and working with health professionals. This program will give me the opportunity to have first-hand experience with the career I will pursue and also make a difference in this field.  The program will take place during the summer of 2018. The dates are May 20th-June 16th. Any and every donation is more than appreciated. There is no amount that is too little. The program costs $4,400 without airfare. By April 14, 2018 my first payment of $2,300 is due. The final payment is due by May 10, 2018. I am also applying for outside scholarships but they are not guaranteed. Even if I am chosen for the scholarships, they still will not cover the total amount of expenses to be eligible for this trip.  Thanks, in advance to everyone willing to help support this life-altering experience for me.
