Abraham's Drugstore Supply

We’re raising funds for our friend Abraham to start a new business.  Abraham lives in Lalibela, Ethiopia where he previously was a tour guide, organizing tours around Ethiopia and operating accommodations.  Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has decimated the tourism industry in Ethiopia, which relies heavily on foreign travellers.  Abraham can no longer make a living and support his family, so he’s trying to start a new business.  He plans to source PPE, diapers and other daily essentials for children and adults to Lalibela, where there is a shortage of these items, and eventually open his own drug store.  He’s researched the market, created a business plans and estimates he’ll need about CAD$3500 to get his business started.

We met Abraham when we visited Lalibela on a trip through Ethiopia and east Africa.  We stayed with him at his family’s home on a mountain overlooking the town.  He was a wonderful host who helped us plan our visit to Lalibela and organized the next leg of our trip.  We were there during Ethiopian Christmas and he invited us to join himself and his family for Christmas dinner.  It was one of the highlights of our trip and an experience we’ll always remember. Check out Marieke’s blog post about it.

Covid-19 has affected so much of our lives, but we’re lucky to live in a wealthy country with a government that has helped save many of us from financial ruin.  Places like Ethiopia don’t have that luxury.  Please consider making a donation to help Abraham support his family and provide a much needed service to his community.
