Kaiela Arts Shepparton is is a local Victorian Aboriginal community run arts centre located in Shepparton, providing an important space for artists and the community to connect with art and culture. Our work drives towards important outcomes for both our artists and the broader Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community. http://kaielaarts.org.au/
We are asking for your help to fund us to screen print our original artwork designs onto fabric as part of our 3 year, Design Roots textile project. We will be working with Stewart Russell at Spacecraft Studio in Melbourne http://www.spacecraftaustralia.com/
where we will assist in printing our designs on 200 metres of linen fabric.
Currently we are located in two shop fronts in the CBD of Shepparton and represent over 90 Aboriginal Artists. We are working towards colocating in 2020 with the Shepparton Art Museum that is to be built on the shores of Victoria Park Lake. To prepare for this new location we are creatively connecting to the enviorment to create designs for fabric that will be made into table linen and other home wares so that our visitors will be able to take home original artwork momentos from our place.
To enable this project to go ahead - we need to raise $10,000. to pay for the fabric and the materials to print the designs. Kaiela Arts artists would like to share the rationale behind this project with you - see below.
We also love to meet and have a yarn with all our supporters so please either pop in or email us - the kettle is always on.
Your support and sponsorship of this project will help support Aboriginal Artists from the Kaiela Dungula (Goulburn Murray) region. Our artists rely on the income that they receive from their artwork and are passionate about sharing their culture through their art with the world. This project will not only pay for the printing costs but it will support artists to work with the staff at Spacecraft Studios in Melbourne where they will learn how to screen print their own designs.
