Saving Kimberly

Kim Costello - gardener, cook, lover of music, teacher, and sister to countless extended families across the globe was found February 15th in her flat in Istanbul, Turkey unconscious, with massive head trauma.

She was taken to hospital where she underwent emergency brain surgery, and was placed in a medically induced coma. During this fight for her life, she experienced system failures, paralysis, and weeks on a ventilator far from home - isolated from family and friends. Much to the relief of those of us who have spent countless hours praying and rallying support for her survival, she is now off a ventilator and speaking, but the real trek begins.

Without insurance, her medical expenses are going to land on family. Beyond the hospital bills, she faces an arduous journey of rehabilitation and readjustment to her new reality. Please find it in your hearts to assist with the financial burdon she and her family face to not only get her home, but to get her back on her feet (quite literally) so that we can all someday be blessed with her infectious smile, her raucous laugh, hugs that would weaken a bear, and, if we're really lucky, some of the fantastic food that she grows and throws so much soul into.

She is looking to be discharged very soon, but currently doesn't have appropriate housing, nursing assistance, and hasn't been deemed as safe to travel home.

The wheels are turning quickly. We are hoping to be able to raise the funds by the end of April, knowing that she'll need to be relocated to the States, and placed in medically assisted housing. It won't be easy, and we know it's a lot to ask for, but any way you can help would be greatly appreciated.
