Greetings from Tambacounda, Senegal
As many of you already know, Abdoulaye Diakite, 67 years old, passed away around 12:30 AM on Monday January 8th, 2018. He was in his bed at his family home in Tambacounda, Senegal, when he passed, and was buried the same day at the local cemetery in the neighborhood of Medina Coura. The cause of death is unknown as he was pronounced DOA at the local hospital, and due to limited staff and medical equipment, there was no option to perform an autopsy.
Since his passing many family members, spiritual leaders, and friends have been performing rituals to ensure his proper passage into the realm beyond. As a head of a large family, teacher, leader, and friend to many people here and around the world, Abdoulaye's passing has shaken the foundation of many lives and communities. His time to pass came and he is now peacefully enjoying a life without the pain, suffering, or struggle that has been his reality for nearly a decade now. Abdoulaye was a shining example to us all of what it means to persevere through difficult times, while keeping a positive mentality. Even up to the day of his passing, and despite being all but entirely dependent on others to perform the most basic tasks for him, Abdoulaye was jovial, easy going, and kind. Let us all learn from him what it means to be devoted to a culture of peace, kindness, and resilience, with a strong will to carry on the lessons, stories, music, and dance of our beloved ancestors. Let us never forget him and all the joy that he brought to our lives, the wisdom he bestowed, the secrets he revealed, the communities he founded, the music he shared, and all forms of gifts he gave in his time with us.
Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this very important time of his transition and if you have the means to give financially, please do so from your heart, and give what you can. I will continue to be here with his family aiding in any way that I can, including raising funds to meet the financial needs until the last ceremony is completed on Sunday, the 14th. Any funds raised that exceeds the costs of his passing rituals will be given to his children after 40 days of mourning and prayer is completed by his wife.
