ABC- Alfreda's Battling Cancer

For the past 39 years it has been me and Alfreda- no dad, no husband, no siblings.  I have never had to share my mom with anyone, but Jehovah God.  So safe to say, my mom is my world.  Recently my world got ROCKED when my mom, Alfreda, got the diagnosis no one wants to hear- she has endometrial cancer.  As it would with anyone, it has turned her world into roller coaster of the unknown.  Naturally, our thoughts run back and forth from super positive to worst case scenario.  It’s a ride no one wants to be seated on, but we’re trying to tackle it head on with support.  When a loved one gets hit with that word – everything changes.  Cancer isn’t what it once was, but it is still a fight for life and this fight is for my mom’s life. There has been some positive news though, in the form of being told the cancer is localized to the pelvis. However, the type of cancer plaguing her is rare and aggressive.  Thus, surgery is scheduled for March 21, 2018.  We won’t know what stage the cancer is until we receive the pathology reports after surgery. Anyone that has met my mom knows she is incapable of meeting a stranger.  She will always find a way to engage someone in conversation. Yet, since the diagnosis, she is a lot quieter and thinks more deeply.  She still welcomes guests, but the visits are a lot different.  Any love shown is welcomed more readily and appreciated more fully.  She still gives big smiles, but now there’s a hug with it.  Her mental fight to remain positive and focused shows itself in the silent moments she takes in a crowded room. We have been in difficult straits before, but this is new and more important than ever before.  This has created more of a financial strain on an already exhausted budget.  We are trying to follow the treatment plan given by the doctor, as well as, implementing some homeopathic routes that don’t conflict with the western medicine.  She has the bulk of the battle on her, but there is so much more that has to be done. This includes many things- the first being a radical change in her diet and daily way of living.  She has to eat and drink off and out of glass dishes.  Plastic is known to contaminate whatever it comes into contact with.  She can no longer have refined sugar, processed foods, sodas, limited meat (preferably none), and no fried foods. The best way is to get as close to a plant based diet as possible.  This means eating only organic fruits and vegetables and wild caught fish.  She drinks alkaline water now. Yes, everything that is best for her is much more expensive.  It also requires that I get back in the habit of cooking.  These changes are super difficult with our limited, fixed budget.  There has been an outpouring of love and support already and it continues with each passing day, but all financial help is HUGELY appreciated and needed. We have never set up a page like this before and thought it would be best to have a place for ones to donate easily and/or anonymously.  It is also a way to give updates on how she’s feeling without having to send out so many group texts messages which a lot of people hate.
