Hello! My name is Abby Bennion. I just finished my Sophomore year at Utah State University, where I play the French Horn and study Music Education.
I started my journey with the French Horn in junior high when I signed up for band class. I had been told it was one of the most challenging instruments to learn and I am always up for a challenge.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to study with several mentors here in Utah and have participated in many great local programs. Through each of these people and experiences I have been inspired to keep challenging myself as a musician, as well as in my academic and personal life.
Recently, my horn professor encouraged me to audition for another exciting challenge - an opportunity to study and perform in the Czech Republic as a participant in the 2016 Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Festival. (http://www.praguesummernights.com/ )
Although it was last minute and I thought it was a long shot, I sent in my audition video last week. After several suspenseful days of waiting, yesterday I found out I made it!
I am so incredibly honored to be selected for this exciting new challenge. We will be studying at the Czech University of Life Sciences with master classes and private lessons from professional musicians. We will be performing Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Czech National Theatre, where it was first conducted by Mozart himself in 1787. For me, this is an opportunity of a life time!
My next challenge is to raise the money I need to pay my travel and lodging expenses. Since this is an unexpected, last minute opportunity, I need to raise $1500 in just a few weeks. If I can raise my half of the costs, my parents will pay the other half.
Please consider sponsoring me in this great adventure by donating a little (or a lot) to my gofundme campaign.
Thank you!
