Abby needs our help!! As I write this today I still can't believe this all started with a twisted ankle:( Months and months back Abby called me & told me that "her clumsy self" sprained her ankle. We laughed and joked about this being a "so abby" moment and life kept going. But then about 4 months ago, that ankle kept swelling, it was becoming painful and she could barely walk on it. After much persuasion we all convinced Abby to go to the doctor. The Dr. identified a blood clot at that vist.....not good, but certainly nothing to be overly concerned about, right? Wrong.... from the blood clot to the blood thinner, to the coughing and peeing blood, Abby's health deteriorated fast & she eventually found herself spending weeks in the hospital & was ultimately diagnosed with Good pastures disease, a rare autoimmune disease in which antibodies attack the membrane in lungs and kidneys, leading to bleeding from the lungs and kidney failure.
The last 3 months have been the hardest and most challenging months of my best friends life. Emotionally, physically and financially:( On top of Spending most of her time in the hospital running test after test, IV's, neck ports, plasma exchanges, chemo, steroids and at least 15 other medications to be taken daily she now finds herself without income. There is no short term disability in home healthcare, no paid vacation days. And on top of having no income from her job, she has been prescribed a chemo drug that has no generic and even with prescription discounts & programs, costs close to $500 a month.
Now, any one who knows Abby well, knows that asking for help is not easy for her. But she has given me the ok to set up this fund on her behalf. She knows that she needs help and is willing to graciously accept any and all assistance her friends and family can offer. If money is difficult, a warm meal delivered to her house or a quick text to say I'm praying for you is just as helpful & inspiring to her. She appreciates all your love and support, Thank You!
