I'm Jeremiah Smith from Burbank, CA and I'm a reality television producer. 2 years ago I had the pleasure of spending 6 weeks in the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas to film a TV show for Bravo about people on a sailing vacation. The show didn't last long, but the impression the beautiful chain of islands made on me did. The Abacos are quite literally heaven on earth with its pristine blue waters, white sandy beaches, and rustic islands and cays. My family visited me there for a week over Christmas and the Abacos gave me some of my most special memories with my wife and two sons. My kids still ask me regularly wen we are going to go back.
In addition to its natural beauty, the people who live in the Abaco Islands are some of the nicest, warmest people I've met in my life. The local Bahamians were so great to work with and made me and my team feel welcome in their paradise every day. I'll never forget how proud everyone was of their home, and how thrilled they were that we were making a TV show about their islands.
Abaco was in the direct path of Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 storm and one of the strongest the Atlantic has seen in years. The reports and images coming out of the islands are horrible. Homes and buildings are destroyed, cars flipped over, roads flooded. The storm surge is expected to reach up 23 feet in some areas which will cause more damage, injuries, and likely deaths.
Having spent such a special time in such a special place, I want to repay the people of the Abacos and help them rebuild their beautiful community once the storm passes. They are going to need food, water, clothing, building supplies, and they are going to need man power to clean up debris. There will be construction and transportation needs to rebuild what was damaged.
Every dollar donated through this gofundme will go to purchasing supplies or funding the logistics for volunteers to go to the Abacos and help the community get back on its feet.
