Love Abaco - Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund

** HURRICANE RELIEF FUND:  ABACO BAHAMAS ** Love Abaco - First Orlando Foundation www.LoveAbaco.org As most are aware, the Abaco Islands in the Northern Bahamas experienced the catastrophic impacts of Category 5 Hurricane Dorian on September 1, 2019 with sustained winds of 180 MPH and gusts over 200 MPH. Additionally, the islands experienced a storm surge between 18 and 23 feet. To put this into perspective, this storm was considerably stronger than Hurricane Andrew that devastated parts of Miami. Catastrophic damage was broadly reported with some parts of these islands no longer inhabitable. Recovery is expected to take years.  These small islands are located approximately 200 miles East of West Palm Beach, Florida and is home to some 18,000 Bahamians. A popular tourist destination, known for its slow pace of life and an uncharacteristic lack of big resorts, massive casinos and cruise ship harbors, like those found in Nassau and Freeport, the communities of Abaco are small family centric towns of simple people living life in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. WHO WE ARE: This Fund was established by Dave Meldeau (known as Diamond Dave to the people of Abaco), founding member of the Abaco Flight Support team and volunteer who has had his boots on the ground in Abaco since day one. We have established this Gofundme page to assist with gathering emergency financial donations for distribution directly to the beautiful people, families and communities of ABACO, BAHAMAS. The situation is dire. An emergency exists today for all necessities to sustain life including food, water and shelter. Your help is desperately needed.   HOW WE WILL DISTRIBUTE DONATIONS: Donations collected on this Go Fund Me page WILL NOT BE GIVEN TO THE BAHAMIAN GOVERNMENT. Instead, all donations will be distrubuted directly to the people of Abaco via the First Orlando Foundation, who has already supported our mission in multiple ways such as flights, fuel, transport, logistics, search & rescue and manpower (volunteers). Additionally, over 500,000 pounds of aid had beeen flown  in and distributed to those in need via flights funded by private individuals and the First Orlando Foundation.  This operation will continue to support Abaconians as long and funding remains. 100% of the proceeds of this Gofundme page will go to the people of Abaco Bahamas. No individuals will be given a single cent of our funds. Unlike many other foundations, our volunteers are doing so at their own expense.  PLEASE ACCEPT OUR SINCERE APPRECIATION: Thank you in advance for offering your financial assistance to the wonderful people and families of Abaco. Our aim is to solely assist them at this time of urgent need. We also appreciate all of those who urgently shared this page in social media with others to assist us in driving awareness.
