Aaron and Nichole

Many of you know them, but if you don’t, allow me to introduce you to my friends Nichole and Aaron. These are two young people that I have known for many years and absolutely adore. They are fun-loving, genuinely compassionate, and extraordinarily kind. I have never known a time when I asked them to do something for me that they didn’t jump at the opportunity, never expecting anything in return. They are family-oriented, loyal, and devoted young people…so much so that I often have to remind myself how young they really are.
Although they met in Junior High and became great friends, they didn’t begin dating until after High School. They dated for about 6 years and during that time, great friends turned into endearing sweethearts. Of course there were rocks along the trail as we have all faced in relationships, but on Christmas Eve last year, in the presence of her family and kneeling in the snow amongst scattered rose petals, Aaron asked Nichole to become his wife. She said yes…only after leaping up into his arms and curling her limbs into a full body wrap.
It’s been an exciting time for all of us (family and friends) to watch and support them over these last few months as they have scrimped, saved, and begun planning their wedding. None of us could have guessed the enormous challenge this lovely young couple would soon face.
On Monday this week Nichole called her mom to tell her that Aaron had become suddenly ill. He had a really severe headache, began vomiting, was having trouble with balance and coordination, and he was confused and disoriented. Mom urged Nichole to get him to the hospital immediately. The earliest reports we received was that they had found a mass in his brain, later it was said to be like a cluster of veins and there was internal bleeding. He was transferred to the intensive care unit at Harborview and has been there since that time. Nichole has only left his side long enough to slip out and run home to take a shower and return. He is slated for surgery today.
The procedure uses a small catheter inserted through an artery in the groin area. The catheter holds a small platinum wire called a coil. The surgeon navigates the catheter all the way up into the brain and into the vein that is bleeding. The way the wire is released from the catheter causes it to coil up, thereby stopping the bleeding and preventing more blood from entering the damaged vein. The prognosis is good and we are all holding him in our thoughts and prayers.
We are not sure what to expect for them, as far as medical bills are concerned, because Aaron has no medical insurance coverage. There may be some help for them since he is now in the county hospital, but we’re not sure about that or cost of the original emergency room visit and testing they did. Even if there is assistance for the medical costs, neither of them has been able to work since this started…the mortgage will soon be due and the bills are piling up.
I love these two kids a lot so I wanted to get the word out. I am hoping to raise some money to help them through this catastrophic event. If you also find it in your heart to help them financially, that would be wonderful. If you’re not in a place to do that, then please pray for them, and God bless you for it.
