The Homeless Childrens Education Fund (HCEF) directly assists children in Allegheny County and surrounding areas. Any donations that you can direct to this group will make a big difference!
The funds we raise are earmarked for the Hope Through Learning Award (HTLA). The Hope through Learning Award is a $2,500 financial scholarship award available to youth in Allegheny County who have persevered through homelessness during their school years and will be attending a post-secondary education program. We've set our goal at $7,500 in hopes of helping HCEF grant three of these awards to promising young adults in our area.

About HCEF
For 21 years, Homeless Children's Education Fund (HCEF) has been serving the needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness. In Allegheny County, there are 4,183 students who do not have a permanent, night-time residence. In the Pittsburgh Public School system, 7% of all students are homeless -- this amounts to 1,838 youth. For many, this lack of housing is due to family conflict, domestic violence, parental illness and/or job loss. Some youth that HCEF serves are abandoned and kicked out of the house by their legal guardians. COVID-19 has exacerbated the problems associated with unstable housing.
HCEF programs provide direct services to youth, including after-school tutoring, teen college and career guidance and STEAM enrichment programs. Additionally, HCEF assists with immediate emergency needs such as hygiene supplies, clothing and technology. HCEF also provides a mini-grant program that benefits housing partner agencies and a back-to-school backpack distribution program that helps 2000 students become prepared for the school year.
