Advocating for Families in WA DC

Volunteerism has been a priority in my life since my senior of high school. I volunteered as a camp counselor for a 6th grade outdoor education program and I visited grade schools as a D.A.R.E. role model. I also advocated for students as an elected member of student government. Every time I have volunteered I have learned something about others and in-turn I have felt fulfilled with my investments of time and energy. 

When our first son entered the world I quickly learned the necessity for family advocacy and many of my volunteer commitments since have been centered around this cause. I have also modeled volunteerism with our sons. This spring we had our 3rd family bowling team raising money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska.

On June 10th I learned I was nominated and received an invitation from the White House to attend a Summit on Working Families in Washingto D.C. This is an opportunity in a national forum that I must accept.  Ironically this invite came with only 13 days notice to find airfare tickets and hotel accomodations that is not paid for with the invitation. If you have ever traveled to or from Alaska you have some idea how costly this will be.
