Hello! My name is Dylan and I have a week to raise two months worth of back rent or I will lose my apartment.
Although I've never been rolling in dough, this particular financial crisis sprung from my relatively recent escape from an abusive relationship. Despite being able to overcome this painful obstacle, my former partner moving out of the apartment left me stuck with the lease and paying full rent for a place I couldn't afford for two months. I have since gotten a roommate but am still suffering the negative bank account effects of those two months. Now it's gotten to the point where I can't afford my rent this month and am nearing serious consequences if I don't come up with the money ASAP.
I've exhausted all of my options (odd jobs, extra shifts, donating plasma, asking my struggling parents for help, contacting family that I haven't talked to in 10+ years, asking my bank for a small loan) and so now I am turning to a venue of strangers and extended queer family to ask for assistance.
I have reservations about doing this for a couple of reasons, first being that I'm a white trans-masculine person on the internet asking for money, and I recognize my privilege in that. While typically trans* folks are asking for assistance with gender confirmation surgeries, (which I can't even imagine affording at the moment), I believe housing is a queer issue as well.
Another reservation comes from growing up poor -- I always believed in earning my own way in the world, and it's difficult for me to admit to being in a place of needing help. However, sometimes getting back on one's feet requires the hands of a friend, so I am reaching out to my community to ask for a hand.
I'm a big hearted math nerd queerdo who loves and values my community and I know that whatever my community can give, I can give back ten fold in time. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Seriously anything helps at this point, and even if you can't donate just sharing it on facebook/tumblr/etc. and with friends is helpful. I truly appreciate it, from the bottom of my gay little heart.
