Curtis Higginbotham formerly of Tama, Iowa now a resident of Colorado was involved in a head on collision involving a drunk driver in Pueblo, Colorado on Monday June 2, 2014 at approximately 8:40 PM and continues to fight for his life from an SICU bed at a Denver hospital.
In a week Curtis has under gone 6 surgeries with several more to come. Curtis has a shattered pelvis, 7 broken ribs on each side for a total of 14, broken hip, broken left foot, broken ankle, lung contusions, which is the reason for mechanical ventilation, and a bladder injury.
As many close family and friends read this they may be in aw and think that no man should have to go through this once in his, let alone twice. For those of us that know the situation with Curtis you will think back to 1993 when we were 12 years old Curtis was involved in a snowmobile versus car accident to which you will remember he fought then for his life for over a year as they repaired his pelvis then with rods and screws on portions and other vital body parts were repaired. He over came it though and grew up a brilliant young man with the biggest heart you will ever see.
He recently was contacted by John Deere in Colorado for an excellent employment opportunity to which he accepted and he and his beautiful wife moved to Colorado. Curtis is a real life hero. On the night of the accident as they traveled down the highway in Pueblo discussing how wonderful their lives had become ( a new truck, a new 5 acre Ranch home, a perfect job, and their involvement with Triple Acres Horse Rescue, Inc) a drunk driver going down the highway the wrong way with her headlights off aimed to hit them. Curtis took his seatbelt off through himself over his wife and jarred the truck to a sharp right, this act saved all three of their lives.
Jennifer had a small knee injury cuts scrapes and bruises. The drunk driver walked away with a broken femur and Curtis continues to fight for his life. Jennifer is staying with friends and at the hospital as much as possible but since they will not let her spend the night in ICU it is difficult. Please help this family as hospital expenses occur and living expenses exceed their means as they live away from home.
