Dream Medical Volunteer Trip To Nepal

Hello everyone!

Volunteering abroad has been a dream of mine for years.

I want to make an impact, to learn about medicine and other cultures, to step outside my comfort zone, to do something adventurous, to meet new people, to help heal the planet, to change my life...

When I found out about Project Abroad, I almost couldn't believe my eyes. This program can help me achieve several goals of mine - to make an impact through volunteer work, to gain hands on medical experience, and to travel to a beautiful and exotic country like Nepal- all while I'm still in high school. It's more than I could have asked for. I want this so badly.

If I go, I'll be travelling to Nepal for two weeks next summer (2015). While I'm there, I'll stay with a host family and learn their customs, volunteer in a hospital in Chitwan, attend lectures at the local medical college, and get some time off to explore Chitwan National Park, visit temples, and hang out in the marketplaces. I will end up completing 60 hours of community service in just two weeks. The people I would have the honor of helping out suffer from severe poverty and live in a dangerous environment - Chitwan is literally in the jungles of Nepal, and the poor suffer from a variety of medical issues from malaria and air polution to animal attacks. Offering whatever help I can to them would be a cherishable exeprience.

This is the kind of work I want to do when I'm older, but I'm not a doctor (yet). Projects Abroad will give me a taste of what it's like to do medical work in developing countries, and hopefully it will set me down that path. Without a doubt, I will come out of this experience a changed person, and I will have gained some important perspective at the very least.

Please help me out. Help me spend my summer doing something meaningful, adventurous, and lifechanging. Help me learn about medicine and set me on a career path that could heal the world. Help me achieve my dream.

P.S. Why am I paying to volunteer? The program fee of $2,120 covers the cost of insurance, food, lessons and materials, payment for my guides, etc. I need to raise at least $3,000 to cover the cost of airfare as well, and if I overraise then I might be able to fully cover the cost of airfare and extra expenses.
