Send a D.C. Statehood Panel to NN14

In the capital of the United States, 646,000 tax-paying U.S. citizens are denied the fundamental right to vote. We have to change this. We can only do this with help from activists from other states, and pressure on Congress to pass the New Columbia Admission Act - which would finally end the disenfranchisement of a population greater than that inhabiting Vermont or Wyoming, with one of the most diverse and liberal populations in the country. It is the first time in 20 years a D.C. statehood bill has been before Congress; the timing of this legislation is critical. Meanwhile, proponents of gun proliferation and opponents of reproductive rights in Congress are meddling with D.C.'s local laws and tax budgets on an ongoing basis.

A team of D.C. statehood activists is traveling to Netroots Nation to collaborate with activists on moving our movement for voting representation forward. Please support us so we can attend this conference. Our team is mostly grassroots and could not attend Netroots Nation without outside support. Confirmed speakers include activists Nate Bennett-Fleming, Josh Burch, Kim Perry, and Khadijah Tribble. Martin Austermuhle, a local journalist who covers the D.C. statehood movement, will be moderating. We all appreciate your support, your work, and our collective quest for a more democratic and socially just United States.

Thank you to everyone who is reading this for all you do in the social justice and media realms. We appreciate your donations, and word of mouth is also helpful. This is about democracy and spreading the message, so hundreds of thousands of D.C. residents can finally have the rights - and not just the obligations - of American citizenship.

With gratitude,
The D.C. Statehood Delegation to Netroots Nation, 2014
