Abby's Surgery - Family Needs Help

Donation protected
Born at 32 weeks Abby weighed 4 pounds. She was born with only 1/3 of her small intestine and ¼ of her large intestine. Abby had surgery to remove part of her small intestine that was not functioning. This resulted in her need for continuous IV nutrition to survive because her small intestine was too short to allow for oral formula feedings. Several months later, because of extreme jaundice & abnormal test results a liver biopsy was performed revealing a severely damage liver. At this point, Abby had intestinal failure with end stage liver disease and was in dire straights. Without a transplant Abby’s life expectancy was 6 months. After coming up with a plan for the 1st triple transplant in Texas, the plan was set in motion to move forward with the transplant but was put on hold when Abby developed intestinal bleeding. Abby spent Christmas & New Year’s Eve in the hospital in the intensive care unit until they could stop the bleeding. Once stabilized, Abby was listed for a transplant & 33 days later her organs became available. Surgery Day was 8 days before her 1st birthday. A new liver, pancreas & intestines. Eight hours of surgery & the new organs began functioning immediately. One week later she developed sepsis – a life threatening blood infection. Another surgery was required to treat the sepsis. For three weeks Abby fought for her life. After the 3rd week Abby turned the corner & started improving. Abby had a miraculous healing even arriving home 2 days earlier than planned. Abby is now age7 and because of complications, she has to be in Minnesota for major surgery and will remain there for approximately 4-6 weeks. This will prove to be quite costly. The family will be there together for the surgery but the dad will come home with her siblings and return to work while the mother stays with Abby until she can come home. During this time Abby’s mom will not be able to work. The family depends on the mom’s income to make ends meet. The cost of the surgery, hospital stay, and time off work is creating a hardship on this beautiful family. Any dollar amount donated is greatly appreciated.
