Baby Bryce

This is a message from the baby’s Mom.

The past week has been a whirlwind of doctors, tests, and many other things. To explain a little bit of what’s going on, Bryce has had problems since he was born, that were always put off by “he’s just early” or “he’ll grow out of it.” Well, at his regular 2 months appointment, the doctor witnessed one of Bryce’s “episodes” and said he felt uncomfortable sending him home. We were admitted to the pediatric unit and the nurses immediately agreed with me that he did not eat properly and presented a lot of other concerning symptoms. The next morning his doctor came to check on him and his heart rate was too high for him to be comfortable with. So, he contacted Nationwide Children’s, and Bryce was transported by ambulance here. He has had many tests since then that have showed us nothing thatbwould cause the severity of his episodes, nor why he’s having so much trouble with eating, breathing, resting, or any of his other symptoms which I’ll list for you. He has had 2 ekgs, an echo, an upper gi, a swallow study, several x rays, an ultrasound of his piloris, and ultrasound of his brain, and last night he had a sleep study. While a few of these things have brought to light minor things, none of them have shown anything that would cause the symptoms he’s having. He has had these symptoms since birth, but some of them(such as the issue feeding) have gotten significantly worse. When he eats, his whole body turns mottled(night not be the correct spelling), his hands, feet, and even occasionally his mouth, will turn purpleish blue. he also throws up profusely and can not gain weight. His heart rate will be over 200 while eating and he has reached a point now where he’s not taking a whole bottle, and sometimes not a bottle at all. He gets exhausted with any kind of upset, and feeding wears him out very quickly. He struggles to breathe often, which is worse when he’s eating but presents other times as well. He also has spells where he can’t catch a breathe at all, and the most recent one was last night, and lasted about 4 minutes. We met with his fairly large team today, and have decided to do an MRI on Sunday, and 2 sedated scopes on Monday. There are several other tests they’re still discussing, and as it seems right now our stay will not be a short one. Please, keep our baby in your prayers as we go forward trying to get to the bottom of what is going on with him. Also, please keep every child here in your prayers. They are all struggling and need prayers just the same if not more than our boy.
