My First 26.2mi -Supporting LLS

Donation protected
tl;dr: I am running the Chicago Marathon this fall, and raising money along the way in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for cancer research and treatments.  Google will match dollar-for-dollar any donation amount I am able to raise.

^that's "tech company lingo" for "too long; didn't read", but if you actually do want to read a little more in depth about why raising money for this charity means so much to me, see below!

Hi all!

It's been almost a year since I've retired my college racing spikes, however I plan to lace up once again this fall and take on my biggest race yet: The Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

For those who know me well, know that the Chicago Marathon hold a special place in my heart. Since my recruiting visit to Loyola University Chicago back in 2009, I've supported the marathon. I vowed that one year, I would run it myself.  The year has come, and I plan take on the beast this October.

--I'm running not for myself, but for something bigger and much more important.

One of my teammates and best friends, Ashley Wile, was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma back in the fall of 2013. It was truly the first time that I was directly impacted by someone cancer.  Ashley ended up having to take the second semester off from school (missing both the indoor and outdoor track seasons), to undergo her chemotherapy treatments.  Largely because of an iron will, and some help from one hell of a support system consisting of family, friends , and professional runners, Ashley kicked that cancer's ass .

From her strength, determination, and positive attitude spawned a mantra: Keep Moving Forward. Through hashtags on Twitter, to writing it on our bodies for races, the mantra inspired us to run for something greater than ourselves.

I plan to do just that. I plan to run the Chicago Marathon this fall representing the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)  via Team In Training (TNT) . Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Nearly 958,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers.  I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.

My goal is to raise $2,400 in support of cancer research for LLS. What's even better is that Google is willing to match dollar for dollar any charitable donations I am able to raise. Any donation collected through this profile will be submitted on my behalf to Google to have matched and sent over to the organization.

I have from the moment you see this message until the 27th of September to achieve my goal. Of course the faster and more money collected, the better!

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, thank you very much for your support. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to me via email @ [email redacted]

Thank you so much!

Andrew
