Happy Sunday, everyone!
I cannot believe it is already nearing the end of Summer 2020! The second half of this year is going to look a little different for me than usual- I am going to be a first-year teacher!
For those of you that do not know, I graduated from Arizona State University in August of 2019, and shortly after that, I accepted a position with Teach for America in Jacksonville, Florida! Those that have not heard of Teach for America, it is a program to help fight for the children that are being denied access to an equitable education! What this means is that I will spend these first two years in a Title I school battling on the front lines of systemic racism, and most importantly, educating an awesome group of middle school students! To say that I am excited is an understatement!
However, there is a lot of uncertainty in the air right now due to COVID-19. The educational landscape is looking a lot different this year, as compared to years in the past. Students are dealing with a multitude more struggles than they would have because of school closures such as access to technology to promote learning, nutritional deficits, and lack of socioemotional learning that they would have received in the classroom.
With that, I want to be 100% prepared when stepping into a brick and mortar school building. It is my goal to provide a comfortable and fully stocked learning environment to kick off this weird school year! The kids deserve it.
This money will go towards an excessive amount of cleaning/hygienic supplies, classroom supplies, and classroom furniture.
Please do not feel obligated to donate, even a simple share will do!
