Mobility for Tanner and Skyler

Donation protected
Tanner and Skyler have a rare genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 2. SMA is a degenerative disease that affects the motor neurons which control the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, lifting your arms, breathing, and swallowing. As the motor neurons die, children with SMA slowly lose muscle strength and it robs these children of the ability to move and breath on their own. The brain’s cognitive functions and the ability to feel objects and pain are not affected. As yet, there is no treatment or cure for SMA.
Like most SMA kids, neither Tanner nor Skyler have ever walked. Because of their weak muscle tone they require special very lightweight wheelchairs. Traditional pediatric wheelchairs are much heavier and harder for them to use. Tanner is growing out of his and Skyler doesn't have one. Tanner needs a new larger wheelchair so that his current one can be passed down to Skyler. These special wheelchairs are not covered by insurance and so the full cost will have to be made out of pocket. The goal of this fund is to raise money for Tanner's new wheelchair so both boys will have mobility they need.
Tanner and Skyler are bright energetic little boys who desire to just be one of the kids. They want to explore their world like all kids do. Thank you for helping give them the gift of mobility!
