Hola, nuestra mamá se llama Adriana, tiene 47 años y desde hace 27 somos sus hijos. José Ricardo (23), José Javier (18) y yo Ma. Leonor, siempre hemos sido muy apegados a ella. Nuestra vida ha transcurrido, como la de la gran mayoria de personas, en situaciones buenas y no tan buenas, pero sin duda nuestros logros y el gran amor que sentimos hacia ella, se ha debido al esfuerzo de una mujer luchadora que nos ha sacado adelante.
Explicarles quien es mi mama, es quizás una de las tareas más dificiles para un hijo, porque una mamá es TODO para uno. Ella nos ha enseñado con el ejemplo, ha sido una madre divertida, que nos ha dejado crecer y ser lo que nosotros queramos. Nos ha cuidado, motivado y amado. Es también una gran amiga, hermana, tia y persona, es la primera en ayudar sin que se lo pidan y la que ha estado siempre para la gente que la conoce.
Cuando después de muchos años trabajo y sacrificios, que ella afirmaba que por fin iba a tener vacaciones con mi papá; en mayo de este año le descubrieron un tumor en el estomago, diagnosticandole cancer gástrico. Con esfuerzo de nuestros familiares y amigos vinimos a Estados Unidos a hacerla tratar. Paso por una ronda de quimioterapia, donde finalmente el tumor se redujo para proceder a extraerlo. Sin embargo el día de la operación, me comunicaron que el cancer se ha extendido a la zona del peritoneo. Es inimaginable lo que se puede sentir cuando te dan una noticia así, y tampoco es fácil comunicarle a tu madre que no se ha podido operar, que el cancer sigue en su cuerpo, que la batalla tiene que continuar.
Después del shock inicial, ella ha decidido continuar con sus quimioterapias, donde después se probará medicina experimental. Además hemos encontrado un tratamiento llamado HIPEC que lo realizan en Colombia que puede darle mas oportunidades y alargar su vida. Todo esto incurre en una cantidad costo para poder acceder a estos tratamientos y luchar por su vida.
A pesar de todo lo que esta pasando, tiene una actitud positiva, es muy fuerte y tiene confianza que va a continuar con nosotros; porque una madre es un pilar de fortaleza incluso en sus momentos mas difíciles. Y es esa fortaleza la que nos motiva y nos hace seguir adelante. Su fé es inquebrantable y su confianza en Dios absoluta.
Mi mamá es una madre fantástica, seguramente como las suyas. Y por lo mismo entenderán que queremos hacer todo lo posible para que ella este bien y siga con nosotros. Como ella dice ¨mientras vida hay en el cuerpo, lugar tiene la esperanza¨. Queremos que se haga todos los tratamientos posibles, es por esto que esta campaña esta abierta a ustedes, a quienes las conocen, a quienes se sienten identificados, a quienes son solidariados, a todos los que estamos unidos para hacerle frente a esta enfermedad. Hello, our mother is Adriana, she is 47 years old, and for the past 27 years we've been her children - José Ricardo, José Javier and myself, María Leonor. We always have been very close to her and our life has passed, as most of people, in good and not so good situations, but without a doubt our achievements are due to the great efforts of a strong woman who always looked out for us.
To explain who our mother is maybe one of the most difficult task for a daughter/son, because a mom is EVERYTHING. She has taught us with great example, she has been a funny mother who has let us grow to be whatever we dream of. She has taken care of us, loved us and pushed us. She is also a great friend, sister, aunt and overall a great person, she's the first helping without being ask for help, and she has always been there for her loved ones and people that know her.
After a lot of years of struggle, she planed to spend quite time with my father and all of a sudden her sickness appears. In May of this year she was diagnosed with a stomach tumor. With great effort and support of our family and friends, we came to the U.S. to get her a treatment. She passed for a round of chemotherapy in order to make the tumor smaller and to be able to extract it. However, the day of the surgery we were told that the cancer spread out to the peritoneum area. It's unimaginable what you can feel when you are told such news, and it's not easy to tell that to your mother, that she cannot have the surgery and that the cancer is still in her body.
After the initial shock, my mother has decide to go back to Ecuador and continue her chemotherapy treatment there. But we have found a treatment called HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy)
that is done in Colombia and will give her more chances to extend her life.
Despite all that has happened, our mother keeps a positive attitude. She's confident that she will remain with us, because a mother is a mother even in her worst moments. And it's that strength that makes us want to move forward.
My mom is a fantastic mother, sure, as your mothers are. And for that reason you would understand that we want to do all, so she will be better. As she says as long as there's life in the body, there's a place for hope. We want that she can do all the treatments possible and improve her quality of life. This campaign is for all of you that know her, for all of you that feel identify and want to continue fighting this awful disease. Thank you, because together we can face this challenging time.
