Kahanu's Heart Surgery

This is my almost 3 year old son, Kahanumeaola. He was born with a congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. This basically means that the left side of his heart was not fully developed, which results in the lack of oxygen to the rest of his body. Kahanu was born in San Diego and had his first open heart surgery at 4 days old. He's had a total of 4 surgeries, not including the numerous heart catherizations that was needed from birth till now. Our family has lived in San Diego for a year before we were able to return back home to Hawaii. Recently Kahanu was air ambulanced out from Hana to Kapiolani Hospital, where doctors told us that he will need to have open heart surgery as soon as possible. Kahanu's upcoming surgery is scheduled for August 1st at Radys Children's Hospital in California. We do not know how long we will have to be up there, doctors say it all depends on how Kahanu does with surgery and recovery.
