As many of you know, my parents are always there to help anyone in need. They're always first to come to our families aid anytime we need them. They always give back to the church and many other charities.
Last week, my parents were the victims of a heartless scam targeted towards the elderly. They received a call that one of our relatives was in trouble and needed money fast. They spoke to someone who sounded just like our cousin, and then another person posing as a lawyer. After multiple calls, and feeling rushed to help our family member as soon as possible, they sent close to $25,000 to this con artist.
We've all heard the stories and we all say “How did they not know it was fake??" but these lowlifes are very good and convincing. They prey on the elderly and try to confuse them and rush them into doing things they would NEVER normally do. My parents have such big hearts and just wanted to help out our family member as quickly as possible...Not knowing it was all an elaborate scam!!
We are heartbroken for them and of course they are extremely embarrassed and didn't even want to tell us that this had happened to them. We are now in the process of filing police reports and trying to track down these heartless criminals, but the money is most likely long gone.
My parents would NEVER ask for a hand out, but they just lost their LIFE SAVINGS!! My siblings and I are trying to pool together as much as we can to help them. We are hoping to recoup as much as possible to help put their mind at ease. PLEASE DON"T TELL THEM ABOUT THIS... THEY WOULD BE SUPER EMBARRASSED BY THIS ALL.
