Insulin Pump Fundraiser for Olivia

Donation protected
HI Everyone,
We have set up this "go fund me" page for our 10 year old daughter, Olivia. As some of you may know, on January 8th, Olivia was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

If you are not aware, Type 1 Diabetes is a life long chronic non-curable (as of yet) illness. In type 1 diabetes, the cells in the pancreas that make insulin are destroyed, and the body is unable to make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps to lower blood sugar by allowing sugar to pass from the blood into the cells. When there is no insulin, blood sugar, called glucose, builds up in the blood. Normal levels of blood sugar are helpful, but when it builds up (hyperglycemia or HIGH blood glucose), it can cause both short term and long term problems. While the exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown, it is thought to be an autoimmune response. There is nothing we could've done to predict or prevent Olivia from getting Type 1 Diabetes. Most days, she still struggles and asks "why me?" It is unfair.

Each day Olivia has to check her blood glucose multiple times (finger prick) and has to receive insulin injections to cover everything she eats. To date, she has received well over 900 injections. This is hard to deal with on a daily basis, fortunately diabetes management has come a long way and children and adults with Type 1 Diabetes can get insulin "pumps" to avoid multiple injections. The pump injects insulin through a port in their skin. It can be easier for some people than sticking themselves with a needle. It may also level out blood sugar highs and lows and overall manage diabetes much better.

After months of research, we finally picked the pump for Olivia, only to find out that this specific pump was NOT covered by children's special health insurance and only a fraction covered by BCBS. The cost for us is high on top of all her other monthly expenses ie: insulin, supplies etc, but we are determined to make this happen to make every-day-life easier for our daughter. At 10 years old she should be care free and not worry about these things. We feel the pump will help her live a better life, regulate and stabilize her blood glucose better so that she can live a long healthy life and not endure any complications from T1D in her adult life. We ask, if you are willing and able to make any $ amount donation to help us give Olivia something that will help her everyday! We appreciate your kindness and generosity! Love & Light!
