Art Educator Delegation Trip to Finland

I'm Valerie Xanos, an artist and art teacher at Curie Metro High School in Chicago. As an artist I work in painting, collage, and photography. As a teacher, I work to create dynamic, deep, thoughtful, playful, and contemporary experiences making art with my students.
I am raising funds to go on a trip to Finland as an art teacher's delegate with the National Art Education Association. I am lucky to be part of this important international exchange. The delegation has been developed to foster dialogue with Finnish art teachers. Finland is well known for its highly successful system of education, one of the best in the world!
We will focus on: educational policy at local and national levels, curriculum planning and content, teaching environments, assessments of teaching and learning, teacher preparation, alternative learning environments, the influences of local art and culture, and community perceptions about art in schools.
This is an incredible chance for any educator! For those of you who know me, I am active in education and especially art education issues. I also have two classroom blogs where you can see some of the innovative projects my students create. They curate artwork in their own community outside of the school.
