Please bear with me as I share something very close to my heart.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine my family would face the emotional and physical hardship of battling cancer with yet another loved one.

As many of you know, back in December my sister Alyssa was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma vaginal cancer. She has already endured months of chemotherapy and radiation. After finishing, we entered a difficult “wait and see” period—holding on to hope and praying for good news.

Earlier this month, Alyssa had new scans. Unfortunately, the results were not what we had prayed for. The cancer has grown, with lymph nodes affected in her left groin and a new growth in the center of her cervix. A biopsy confirmed more cancer.

On October 6th, Alyssa will begin another, even stronger round of chemotherapy. This will involve four new medicines in addition to the key treatment she’s already been receiving. While we are deeply grateful that there is still a treatment option, this new regimen will be harsher and will cause Alyssa to lose her hair. As if fighting cancer isn’t already more than enough, facing such a visible change is another heavy weight to carry.

We continue to pray that this treatment is the answer to our prayers—that it will finally kick this cancer’s butt and give Alyssa the cancer-free life she deserves.
