A Wheelchair for Shaz

Shaz is constantly helping others without a second thought. Shaz is working towards becoming a Social Worker in order to pursue a career that will continue helping those in need. Right now, it's Shaz who needs a hand to keep doing what Shaz does.

Shaz is a 27 year  old social-worker-to be who lives with Cerebral Palsy. Shaz is in urgent need of a new power wheelchair to be able to maintain independence and keep living the incredible life Shaz has built. Anything you can spare to help Shaz would be appreciated beyond measure.

What happened to Shaz's old chair?

Shaz: On June the 12th after my exam my power chair that I had for 7 years blew up and is now a write off. Initially I thought it would just be away for a week or so in repairs. But when I called SWEP (State Wide Equipment Program) they declared it a write off.

I’ve started the process of applying for the NDIS, but it takes 3 months just to get a planning meeting. No one can provide me with a new power wheelchair as I am making this transition. Right now I have a loan chair but it cannot be loaned out for the long term, plus this loan chair doesn’t fit what I need making it hard for me to do daily activities and attend appointments.

I cannot walk, so to be without my chair is extremely difficult and stressful. I’m asking for $15,000 as I need to get a new power wheelchair, and get Occupational Therapist assessments. Normally I wouldn’t ask for this but I cannot wait three months. If I cannot get a new power wheelchair I fear that I will not be able to return to my university degree (Masters of Social Work), or continue to do daily things like grocery shopping as I live independently.

Having a power wheelchair is a lifeline for me and it enables me to have independence. Any amount helps, I’m so grateful. Thanks in advance.
