Wheelchairs and More for Kids in Uganda

Niwagaba Brian (on the left) is age 11 and cannot start school this week for the third quarter in Wakiso District, Kyengera Town in Uganda because his teachers cannot take care of him anymore without a wheelchair. 

Brian has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and is past the age when he can walk anymore. His strength in his muscles continues to wane. 

Officially, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness due to the alterations of a protein called dystrophin that helps keep muscle cells intact.

My sons, Everett and Austin, died from it at ages 16 and 22.  So my heart is just breaking for Brian. It's just not right that my kids had great care over here in the US. African kids are not so lucky.

There are over 40 kinds of Muscular Dystrophy and Duchenne is one of the harshest kinds right up there next to ALS.

Lyazi Paul (on the right) is 19 years old and has Bilateral Optical Neuropathy & Cerebral Palsy. He needs a wheelchair now too. He is extremely limited in what he can do as a young adult without one. He is trying to further his studies now. Lyazi Paul is in Mityana District, Zigoti Town, Nakitolo Village.

We have arranged with INS Orthotics, Ltd in Kampala, Uganda to deliver a wheelchair to each Brian and Paul for $150 each. So we are raising $300 for each of them. Please pitch in if you can.

We also 2 other boys who are in need of assistance. If we can raise another $125 we can help them too.  Wadada Fahad needs $60 to get to a hospital to be diagnosed for the illness that is plaguing him so that we will be able to know what we he needs most for his care. Kagaba Bellerine needs $65 for a walker to help him walk, he cannot stay upright. Both have an as of yet undiagnosed illness.
