A Van for Lachlan!

To know the Pughs is to love the Pughs! We’re a small group of friends raising money for Nathan, Jessica, and their three boys to adapt their van into a safe vehicle for the transportation of their eldest son, Lachlan. Lachlan is a wonderful boy who loves monster trucks, going to school, and his brothers. He has a magnetic personality and is fun-loving! He lives with many physical challenges including Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Arthrogryposis, and an undiagnosed genetic syndrome. He has many sub-diagnoses including motor neuropathy, congenital and cortical dysplasia (bilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria), dysphasia (100% gtube fed), pulmonary hypoplasia, central obstructive sleep apnea, micrognathia, bilateral hip dysplasia, bilateral club feet, hypotonia, hypertonia, hypospadias, cryptorchidism, Pierre-Robin sequence, severe speech disorder (apraxia and dysarthria mix), and anxiety.

Okay, STAY WITH US. Those are all big words to tell you that he is a wonder of a boy. He has overcome so much and worked so hard at countless therapy sessions. He can’t move on his own and relies on loved ones and wheels to get him from place to place. He’s a growing boy and that makes transporting him more and more of a challenge! His abilities aren’t anticipated to change, so this vehicle will be the Pugh's long-term option that would accommodate his wheelchairs (power and manual), gait trainer, oxygen and other durable medical equipment for years to come.

Lachlan is (understandably) anxious for independence! He wants to get in and out of the car at school by himself, get to his Miracle League baseball games without Mom and Dad carrying him, etc.  As needed, the Pughs have made changes to their home and lives according to Lachlan’s needs and this is the next step.
2014: they bought a ranch-style home so he could drive his power chair in the house.
2016: they bought a van that they hope to have converted.
2017: they installed a stair chair for their basement and built a ramp on the exterior of their home so he could drive in and out.
2018: remodeled the sink in their main bathroom, so Lachlan (and Conlan with his limb difference) could use it independently. Let’s add "converted their van with help from generous friends" to this list!

Okay, let’s get down to the details. They’ve already been awarded a $5,000 grant towards the van’s conversion, but the total cost is $25,000!!! This is an incredible cost for any family, so we are hoping to raise some money to help! Nathan and Jessie have always strived to be debt-free, generous and financially wise, something we all admire. They've been able to keep their financial goals throughout all of life's ups and downs. We set the goal of $15,000 knowing that won’t fully reach their need, but we can always exceed our goal! We know $15,000 feels like a large amount, but it only requires 300 people giving $50! Or 150 giving $100! This is doable.

We know how special the Pughs are to so many, and we’re blessed to get to walk this journey with them. They’ve done so much to allow their boys to experience the world by doing more than adapting; they are embracing their specific life as a family and showing their boys how to create their own paths on this odyssey of life! Let’s come alongside them to continue that odyssey with the help of a wheelchair accessible van!

Sincerely,

Dana, Heather & Sarah
