A trailer for Thomas

Donation protected
6 years ago a Go Fund Me campaign literally saved my life when I became too sick to work and I had no other way to get medical care or housing. This opened my eyes both to the suffering of others and the collective power we have to change that. Last year I was part of team that helped to raise over 100,000 dollars for women's mental health care in Nepal. This year I'm hoping to make a difference in a single life, right around the corner from my house.

Thomas is a 60 year old man who suffers from homelessness and intermittent mental health issues. He's also one of the kindest, gentlest people I've ever met. He owned a trailer that our neighbor allows him to keep in the alley next to his house, but after a cold winter with no electricity or garbage service, the trailer became inundated with mold and rats. Thomas never complained and I only found out what was happening when I saw him in a tent outside and he told me he was afraid of the rats. We helped clean out the trailer but once it was empty it was clear that the moisture, mold and rat damage was to extensive to make it safe to live in again.

This fund is to raise money for a new trailer for Thomas.  We need to dispose of the old one, purchase a decent small used trailer, and pay for licensing fees.  Additionally, I'd like to pay for Thomas to have a heater, and hopefully collect a little extra money to help him in emergencies.    If you have a small trailer that is in good condition I am happy to pick it up anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.  If we can raise enough money I'd like to get Thomas a small fiberglass shell trailer (like a Boler) because I think it will be easiest to move and will resist molding if he doesn't always have access to heat, but any small good condition trailer will work.  Any money we raise above our goal will go to Thomas.

If you have followed me here from my boatbuilding website, I will give Cape Falcon Kayak T-shirts to anyone who donates $100 or more. Free kayak building course and plan set to anyone who donates $400 or more, and lifetime access to all my online classes for anyone who donates $800, just email me and let me know you donated. I've also got a good condition used LPB kayak that I'm willing to let go of for a $700 donation to Thomas's trailer.

Thank you for your kind support,  I will post pictures of Thomas and his new home when we get it.  Anything you can give makes a difference.
