A Tough Break for David Luck

Donation protected
David Luck, a sophomore at Onalaska High School, was badly injured while tubing behind a jet-ski on Sunday.  The accident happened around 2:30 when David and his friends decided to go on one last ride before they left Grindstone Lake, near Hayward.

Due to extremely unfortunate luck, the boys hit a wave incorrectly and the tube went very high into the air. David flew off the tube while he was still being propelled upward and came down  on a wave - in just the right (or perhaps, just wrong) way. Essentially, the way David hit the wave was like hitting a concrete corner.  He saw  the horrible condition of his leg, passed out, was heroically pulled on to the jet ski by his friends. Paramedics evaluated him at the dock and had to pontoon him down to the boat landing to get him out of the lake. He took an ambulance ride to Rice Lake, was again evaluated, and then transferred to La Crosse via (long) ambulance ride.  David had orthopedic surgery to re- connect his femur. He had three screws and a titanium nail applied from his hip to his knee to reconnect the bone pieces.  Despite all this, David is doing well and recovering near family and friends in La Crosse.
Here's where you come in...
David's mom was faced with a difficult decision after David's accident. She could keep him in Rice Lake for his surgery and recovery and have his ambulance ride from the lake to the hospital covered by insurance, or to David transported to Gundersen, in La Crosse, so he could recover and heal close to family and friends. Staci knew how important the support of his football team, friends and community mean to David. She knew they would help keep his spirit up. She opted to have him transported to La Crosse, which could cost her anywhere from $3,000-$5,000 of out of pocket expenses.

I was lucky enough to teach David, and his sister Kaylin, for 4th and 5th grade. Needless to say, I had a "Luck" in my room every day for four years in a row.  They are a hardworking, fun and loving family. David is one of those kids that could push my buttons during lessons, and then turn around and help me out with something  and give me a big hug before he left for home.   I love this kid. I love this family and they need our help.

Please consider helping fund this cost. David's mom, Staci, is a single mom with two teenaged kids. Any donation you can give would be profoundly appreciated.

Many thanks ,
