A Toothless Pico de Gato

Donation protected
When I adopted Pico from Pounce Cat Cafe, I knew he had gingivitis and some subsequent bad breath. I chalked it up to him being a stinky baby boy and my vet let me know that chronic gingivitis could lead to some problems down the road. I did my best to combat his inflamed gums and stinky breath (water additives and brushing his teeth) but nothing seemed to help. When he turned a year old, I brought him in for his yearly teeth cleaning, but his white blood cell count showed that he was fighting something. He's now on his second round of antibiotics and his first round of steriods, which helps him temporarily, but the only permanent fix is to have his teeth removed. The vet believes that he has a condition known as stomatitis, which is an auto-immune disease that causes the cat's teeth to recess into his gums/jaw. It's very painful, which can be managed for a period of time with antibiotics and steriods. But these things are essentially just band-aids. The only way to ensure that Pico lives a happy, healthy life free of pain is to remove the recessing teeth.
So far I've spent approximately $150 on the antibiotics and steriods but he's going to need oral x-rays before the vet can make a plan for surgery. The initial consultation was $50 and the x-rays will run me around $250-$275 for sedation and imaging. Depending on the severity, he will either need the majority of his teeth removed or all of them, which is going to cost at least $500. Including blood work and general testing, the grand total for all of Pico's medical costs is going to be in the ballpark of $1000, which is approximately a month's pay for me. I'm halfway through my grace period for my student loans, which means this is a prime time for me to start saving my money. I love my cat and I'm more than willing to do what needs to be done for him to live his best life, I just need some help to get him there.
Also, side note about his front left paw that you can see in his model shot - the vet has checked it out and assured me it's a valgus joint, which means that it was most likely broken in utero or soon after birth and simply healed that way. He is not in any pain from his foot, he plays and runs around on it like any other one year old cat. I affectionately call it his "wonky paw!"
