A Thanksgiving to Remember

A JOURNEY OF FAITH...
...And a Thanksgiving to Remember

Dear Family, Friends, Supporters and Encouragers:

Our church isn't very big, but we have a burden to do something big for our community.

Laurel and I share that burden, so recently we decided to embark on a journey of faith and invite our church and others to come along with us.

It's a long story, but one of my good friends is Ken Medema (http://www.kenmedema.com), an internationally known Christian pianist, composer, and singer.

Blind from birth, Ken is one of the most amazing musicians and performers I've ever met. But Ken is more than an awesome musician. He also has a passion to help small churches (like ours!) impact their communities.

SMALL BUT MIGHTY CHURCH WEEKENDS

A while back, Ken began holding what he calls Small but Mighty Church Weekends.  Supported by a nonprofit organization named Interlude, Ken is able to go to little churches that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to bring him in for a concert, and help them do something "mighty" in their communities.

At the bottom of this page you can watch a 12-minute video where Ken describes how Small but Mighty Church Weekends work. That video tells the story of one small church that had Ken do a concert to benefit a local food pantry.

The price for admission to the concert was a non-perishable food item for the food pantry. Ken did the concert and that little church brought in a "ton" of food.

WHAT WE'D LIKE TO DO:

When I saw that part of the video, God touched my heart. There is a great ministry here in Greenville: Hunt County Shared Ministries (aka FISH)
FISH touches a lot of lives and helps many people in Greenville and Hunt County, Texas.

Laurel and I talked it over and we felt God leading us to contact Ken and see if he would come to Greenville and do a concert to benefit FISH.

To make a long story short, Ken has agreed to come to Greenville and do a concert on Saturday, November 4th at the Greenville Municipal Auditorium (GMA) that will benefit FISH.

The theme for the concert is A Thanksgiving to Remember, and admission will be a non-perishable food item. Since there is usually an extra need for food during the holiday season, we felt that this would be an excellent time to bring food into FISH's pantry.

SO WHY THE GOFUNDME PAGE?

Although Ken does the concert free of charge (waiving his regular concert fee), there are still expenses that must be covered to make this concert a reality.

We are still responsible for covering airfare and lodging costs for Ken and his manager, Bev VanderMolen.

Also, we have to cover the cost of renting the Greenville Municipal Auditorium, plus technical support fees.

There are a lot of variables involved, so at the moment we don't know what the exact cost will be, but a safe estimate is about $6,000.

(Watch Ken sing his song, "Moses.")

WHAT'S THE JOURNEY OF FAITH?

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, our church is small  (about 60 people) and has limited financial resources.

Because we didn't want to saddle the church with a large financial obligation, Laurel and I have (by faith) taken on the responsibility of covering the expenses mentioned above.

Since we don't have the funds to cover these costs ourselves, we're asking for your help to make this benefit concert a reality.

Those of you who know Laurel and me know that for most of our lives and ministry we have trusted God to provide. And over the last 40 years we've seen God meet our needs in amazing ways.  So, in many respects, this is the latest step in our journey of faith together.

We're excited to see what God is going to do in the coming months. We hope to see many churches and individuals become involved in this, and we hope that many people in Greenville and the surrounding area who are struggling financially will have a Thanksgiving to Remember this year.

(Just in case you're worried that a Medema concert might be boring...watch this video!)

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

First, pray that God will bring this all together.

     So far...
...We have a commitment from Ken.
...We have reserved the Greenville Municipal                             Auditorium.
...Hunt County Shared Ministries is on board.

In the coming months, there will be a lot of details to     manage, and we'll ultimately need a lot of help to pull this off.

It's much bigger than Laurel and I, so please pray that this will take on a momentum of its own and that God will move other churches and individuals to be a part of this event.

Also, pray that God will bring many people to the concert so that we can bring a TON of food into FISH's food pantry for Thanksgiving.

Second, if you live in Greenville or North Texas, please join us for the concert on Saturday, November 4th  It's going to be an amazing time of singing and celebration.

And, remember, the only admission price to hear this amazing man is a non-perishable food item for FISH.

Just to whet your appetite here's one more clip from one of Ken's concerts:

We're also planning to have a community choir that will sing with Ken. He's going to rehearse us on Saturday morning and we'll be on stage with him that evening. More on this later, as we get closer to the date.

Third, please share this page with your friends, relatives, and anybody else whom you think might be interested.

Fourth, if God leads you, please consider donating toward the concert expenses.

We've estimated the costs to be about $6,000. Although the concert is still about five months away, we don't want to get to concert time and find that we dont' have the funds to cover the costs.

If we raise more money than we need, any funds left over will be given to FISH as a cash donation.

Any donation will help and will be greatly appreciated.

In the following video, which was made primarily to raise funds for Ken's foundation, Interlude,  Ken explains what the Small but Mighty Church Weekends are and shares some stories of small churches that have done mighty things.

I hope you'll join in helping me, Laurel, Fellowship Bible Church, and the churches and people of Greenville and Hunt County make 2017 a Thanksgiving to Remember.
