A second volunteer mission to Nepal

Donation protected
As most of you know, this past January and February, I journeyed to Nepal and taught English in a rural village.  Besides the sheer beauty of the Nepali land and culture, this trip was extremely eye-opening for me.  I learned many things.  I learned that the 2015 earthquake truly devastated the country, and millions of people are still without permanent homes.  I learned that knowing English is absolutely crucial for finding employment, because of the Nepali economy's dependence on tourism.  Yet, I also learned that most of the government schools are corrupt and practically useless for learning English, which means that many Nepalis are without work.   And most importantly, I learned that, even amidst poverty and privation, the children of Nepal are eager and thirsting for knowledge.

This is why I have decided to go back to Nepal.

The school where I taught in January and February is unique.  It's a privately run school and yet does not charge tuition, relying upon donations and volunteers to make it work.  The director of the school, a native of the little village where it operates, decided from the beginning to make Medeka Family school free for all the children of the area.  It's a poor community, with many families from low castes, and so if the school charged tuition, many of the children would be unable to attend.  Moreover, not only is his model generous and brilliant, it works wonders.  Numerous times when I was there, nine or ten-year-olds from my school would become English translators for their high-school level cousins who went to the government schools.  The contrast in English fluency was remarkable!

I have a vision to go back to this incredible school for three months next year, January through March, 2018.  I already know the school, the director, and the routine, so I will be able to jump right in and use my native English to help these kids be successful.  Over the summer, I was certified in TEFL (Teaching English for Foreign Literacy), so I am eager to employ my newly acquired knowledge.  Furthermore, besides teaching at Medeka School, I also plan to travel to a remote mission station and assist the missionaries there.  Truly, I pray, hope, and believe that God will use me as an instrument of charity in this journey!

And this is where I am asking you to help.  Will you journey with me?  I am currently studying for my Bachelor's degree in English, and so my personal funds are rather limited.  Airfare, travel expenses, food and lodging costs, all add up.  And I also hope to give financial aid to the struggling Nepali missionaries.  Would you consider donating for the future of the children of Nepal?  Any gift, no matter the size, will be immeasurably appreciated!

Thank you!
