A Roof for Noel & Blanca

Dear Playa Coyote Friends,
Hurricane Sergio came and went over Playa Coyote without too much damage to most of us. There was one major exception. The person who could least afford damage had the most. Noel and Blanca, who have supported many of us for many years, were in their house at end of the beach. At 7am all of us on the beach felt a huge blast across the whole beach. That surge was a huge gust of wind that took their roof off and laid it in rubble on the hill behind. There is significant structural damage to the block walls as well. Looking at the beams and cement blocks strewn about I am thankful and amazed that neither Noel nor Blanca were injured. Noel has been digging out making the rest of the house habitable.
A couple of us thought it would be good to start a fund to assist them in putting their house back together. Noel said it is hard for him to think about doing repairs right now. His one big concern is that this time of the year is when he has employment. He does not want to start any physical repairs until he has time to create a plan and come up with a detailed materials list and figure out how to pay for it, etc. etc. He has lots of family to help with construction and repair. Funding for materials will be their biggest hurtle.
So, after talking to the folks who are here, we have decided to start a “Go Fund Me” account with a goal of putting enough funds together for materials so that repairs can start later this winter or next spring. In looking at the damage, I believe that it will take at least $2500 US or more just for materials. And $2500 seems like a reachable near term goal.
Here are a couple of pictures of the damage that will need to be repaired to make the structure safe to be in. Noel and Blanca have been there for so many of us for many years...this is a great way of helping them!
