Hi, my name is Mili. I am currently in my second year at the University of Winchester, studying Learning Disability nursing.
A volunteering placement in Sir Lanka over four weeks, starting from the 15th June 2025, is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, to gather skills for my future career.
Work the world, are supporting my experience. Each year, they work along a large number of students to help create healthcare placements around the world, tailored to each of their students individual interests. They help to provide us with accommodation, 24/7 in country support teams, language lessons, full catering, opportunities of trips to explore the beauty of our chosen destinations, and many more helpful factors to help support us to enjoy our overseas placement.
I will be able to work alongside healthcare professionals, observing and understanding how they support and care for individuals with autism, cerebral palsy and down syndrome differently. This will give me the opportunity to gain exposure to a completely different healthcare system, and therefore see how healthcare is provided within a developing country with limited equipment and resources. Throughout this experience, I am aiming to improve my confidence working in the field, and further develop my knowledge and skills.
I aim to gather funds to help with the overall cost of the trip as well as my;
flights, travel insurance, indemnity insurance and of course spending money!
