A Nurse's Latin Journey

In February 2017 I set out from Wyoming on a Yamaha Adventure motorcycle (Super Ténéré) with a goal to appreciate stunning landscapes, experience wonderful cultures, and spread consciousness and love to the beautiful souls I meet throughout Latin America. Many explorers have accomplished a similar excursion. I wish to make my journey unique by volunteering my experience, knowledge, and time as an emergency and critical-care flight nurse with non-profit organizations that operate in Latin America.
My aspirations are to volunteer a minimum of two weeks at approximately 6 locations in Central and South America (time and locations will be dependent on how many funds are raised). I plan to use the organizations LoveVolunteers and ABroaderView . These organizations have done the groundwork with setting up connections in many communities. The current countries I plan to volunteer in include: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, and Argentina. My focus will be with medical and healthcare in hospitals and clinics and even pre-hospital care. Costs are lowered by using the same organizations multiple times. I am not asking for assistance with travel or visa costs. All proceeds will go to paying for volunteer fees or donations to the organizations. LoveVolunteers offers very affordable opportunities that keep more money and skills in the local communities. ABroaderView provides a unique prospect with pre-hospital care.
The donations to these organizations help provide much needed medical supplies to underserved hospitals and clinics, and stimulate local economies with jobs. The fees pay for food, accommodation, and local support and organization.
This is an opportunity to provide support to those underserved communities, cultures, and individuals throughout Latin America that often impact our own society. I hope to use these opportunities to inspire my own philosophy by creating a deeper connection with humanity. I want to have a broader understanding of the world society and the persons who influence it. I will take what I learn and apply it to my life and my career in medicine.
My vision is for this support to impact individuals in a way that accelerates tolerance and learning; this includes you and me, with the connection we will all share. I find nursing innately facilitates opportunities to show compassion. This has led me to the organizations mentioned that can aid in accomplishing this quest.
The first opportunity starts March 13th in Mexico. Funds raised before then will begin this dream. Subsequent donations will continue to fuel this journey.
