A Night On Brown Street

Donation protected
LYTEhouse (Lifting Youth Through Enrichment) is a mentoring organization on Morehouse College's campus for the current freshman class of 2021 and every other freshman class to come. We mentor through the vessels of scholarship, service, and brotherhood; stressing the importance of a strong work ethic within the classroom, a strong work ethic within the community, and the maintenance of these work ethics amongst not only our mentees but their fellow Morehouse brothers as well.

We are currently raising money for an initiative entitled 'A Night on Brown Street'.  A Night on Brown Street is a social experiment that charges Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta University’s student body to spend one night outside on Brown Street (the main street of Morehouse's Campus) in an effort to bring awareness to Atlanta social issue of shelterless-ness. Yet despite the stalemate, the homeless community of Atlanta might be in this winter, we want to show them that the AUC student body moves in solidarity with them, their struggles, and their stories. In addition to partaking in slumber outside, we plan to hold meaningful conversations with professionals and students alike about the importance of homelessness, who it plagues, and being selfless in our efforts to prevent this social ill from reaching more people than it should. The magnitude of this event is immense, and if things occur as expected, we are looking to have Brown Street filled from top to bottom.

Concluding the simulation on Brown Street, students will assemble packs filled with basic hygiene needs and toiletries to hand out to the shelter-less population of Atlanta, targeting different locations across the city. Our goal is to make at the least, 1,500 care packages. Yet as college students, we have realized that there are only so much of the expenses that we will be able to cover. In order for this event to have the impact that we know it can, donations and contributions of every kind are essential to its success. All monetary donations will go directly back into the shelterless community, covering:

Blankets, Coats, and Warm clothing

Non-Perishable Food Items

Toiletries and Hygiene Products

Promotional Supplies (flyers, brochures, etc.)

We thank you so much for even taking the time to read this message, and a special thank you for the support in helping make "A Night On Brown Street" and "The Morning After Brown Street" a success.

If there is a problem within reach of fixing, who are we not to attempt? And most importantly, who are we not to care?

Sincerely,

The LYTEHouse Executive Board
