These are critical times for Wyoming. Just like last year, we are facing a slew of tax hikes, and even new taxes. Last year, an uproar from Wyoming taxpayers helped stop almost half a billion dollars in higher taxes.
Today, the risks are even greater. In this coming session, our legislators will probably get to vote on a corporate income tax. That, together with a sales tax on food, higher local sales taxes, and more, will spell doom for the Wyoming economy.
Voters and taxpayers want to say no, but often they don't know how to formulate the alternative.
This think tank is going to provide the arguments, the theory and the practice that wins the debate over higher taxes. Support us now in our effort to build this new think tank! Donate to our efforts today.
What is a think tank?
It is a non-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. It is educational and does not lobby legislators and it does not get involved in political campaigns.
How does it work?
Its small staff will produce educational material on the Wyoming economy, on the virtues of economic freedom and how to turn the theory of limited government into practical ideas. The Wyoming Center for Political Economy will also travel the state and meet with people to discuss how we can make life better for families and businesses in our state - without just having government grab more of our money.
How it is funded?
With tax-deductible donations. Some think tanks take big donations from big foundations or out-of-state organizations. The Wyoming Center for Political Economy will not do that. We will be dependent on support from the people of Wyoming.
What difference can it make?
Those who want higher taxes often win the argument by asking people "so what spending do you want us to cut?" and by painting horror images of schools with over-crowded classrooms and starving teachers. There is a better alternative, and we will explain it. We want you to know how to defend your opposition to higher taxes, and we want parents all over Wyoming to know how to formulate a successful argument for school choice and other reforms that can cut the cost of government without making life miserable for families and businesses.
