A new smile for Benoît Poudrier

My family has had the amazing opportunity to get to know Ben through the Big Brothers program. He was kind enough to take on both my boys and even includes my daughter when activities take place at my home.
Ben is kind and patient and a great addition to our family.
In May of 2013 Ben was diagnosed with a benign Primary Germinoma, a brain tumor about the size of a golf ball. The tumor was deemed inoperable and once some information was obtained, chemo no longer became an option. He was left with radiation treatments. 24 treatments were required.
After the treatments, Ben returned work again on December 1st and as planned he started seeing the dentist next door. Most of 2014 went smoothly, although, he noticed that he was spending a lot of time at the dentist office getting his teeth worked on.
Eventually, he saw a specialist who decided to look into Ben’s radiation reports and do his own tests. Turns out, some of the radiation Ben got from his treatments for the tumor had leaked into his mouth and was the cause of his teeth being in such bad shape and slowly decaying.
As a result of this, Ben had all of his molars removed. He really wanted to keep his real teeth and tried everything his dentist recommended, but there was just no saving them in the end. Eventually all of his teeth had to be removed. He has been without teeth since 2015.
Unfortunately, although the loss of his teeth is due to medical treatment for a tumor, there is no help from NB Medicare for any of the cost. He does have some dental coverage through his employer but it doesn’t come close to covering the cost of over $3,500.
Because Ben is such a wonderful person I would love to be able to help him smile with confidence and eat all the foods he has been missing.
