A new life for one of Crete's abandoned dogs

My name is Trica and I am a passionate animal lover who would desperately like to support the work of one incredible animal-loving man in Crete by adopting a beautiful little dog from his animal shelter.
Takis Proestakis runs Takis Shelter non-profit organisation and has taken in over 350 animals into his shelter over the last 6 years, but is now over capacity. While Takis has lots of beautiful animals, all of which he hopes will be adopted into good homes, one such beauty has stolen my heart. He has called her 'Melina', and she was abandoned outside a church. She is very sick with a broken pelvis as well as having leishmaniasis and ehrlichiosis (which she is currently being treated for). This poor girl has the sweetest temperament considering her life so far has been a very sad one. She is around 6 years old and I would like to offer this sweet, dear girl a new life with me, and hopefully a second chance for happiness. If I manage to get her to the UK, I will make sure she is cared for and loved like never before. However, it is expensive to bring a dog over from Greece, costing around £1,000. I will need to raise some of this funding. While I'm aware there are thousands of animals that also need help and good homes, if I can help just one, it is one less animal suffering on the streets.
If there are any funds remaining, I will donate to Takis Shelter. Takis works an 18 hour day and hasn't taken a day off in over 6 years. His story is truly inspirational. Life for animals in Greece can be very hard, there is no RSPCA or government funding to tackle the stray animal situation. Takis set up the shelter to help the hundreds of stray animals where he lives in south-east Crete. There is also some urgency here due to the UK leaving the EU on 31st October. I'm not sure how this will impact on bringing animals into the UK after that. Hence, my need to raise some of the funding in the short time frame left.
