A Second Chance at Life for Emel

On August 9, 2018, my little brother Emel Duran was shot 5 times a block away from our mother's house. In the weeks prior to the shooting, he would just be at home spending time with his 6-month-old daughter, a precious, smiley, babygirl named Emilie Aisha.
When he got shot, he tried to walk to the house but collapsed mid-way. My mother and older brother ran to him and were devastated by the sight of him ridden in gunshot wounds; images circulating throughout the internet. By the time he got to the ER, he had no vitals but God was kind to us and worked a miracle over his life.
At the hospital, I told Emel how appropriate it was that Emilie's middle name is "Aisha" which means "life" because by God's grace that Emel's life was spared. His babygirl gave him strength to survive and we're lucky to still have him.
Currently, he's had 3 surgeries and is bracing for a possible 4th surgery on his spinal cord. Doctors are amazed that he is alive and recovering. However, we don't know how long his recovery will be and how long it will be until he can walk again and lead a normal life.
We need your support to help Emel start his second chance at life. Our mother has a disability and our father drives a cab. We were emotionally and financially not ready for this event (who can ever be) but love is carrying us through. By donating, you'll help our family offset medical costs, counseling costs, relocation costs and help Emel build a better life for him and his daughter. We're also accepting donations in the form of baby clothes, toys and other things for Emilie Aisha.
