Bringing Our Aunt Home

Last week our aunt’s life changed forever. Like many others in Puerto Rico, she went from having a warm and secure home to losing it all. When Hurricane Isaias hit the island, it brought heavy rain that led to flash flooding which resulted in 3-4 feet of water, mud, and debris flooding her home, ruining her furniture, clothes, appliances, fence walls, and more.
Our aunt has been a great mother, aunt, second mother, and friend. She also served the Department of Education for 35 years as a teacher. She went beyond the call of duty to serve her students and their families. Now during her retirement years and after taking pay cuts in her retirement pension and dealing with health issues, We feel it is her time to get the help she needs.
My siblings, (Papo, Enid, and Millie) and I want to reach out to your kindness and ask you to please help her with the expenses of cleaning her home, getting food, clothes, fixing the walls broken down by the water, and the basics she will need to go back to a safe home. We do thank you for your response and attention to this matter, and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for helping us to bring our aunt home!
La semana pasada la vida de nuestra tía cambió para siempre. Como muchos otros en Puerto Rico, pasó de tener un hogar cálido y seguro a perderlo todo. Con la llegada del huracán Isaías a la isla, llegaron también fuertes lluvias que azotaron todo a su paso y trajeron de 3-4 pies de agua, barro y escombros inundando su casa y arruinando sus muebles, ropa, electrodomésticos, recuerdos y más.
Nuestra tía ha sido una gran madre, tía, amiga, y durante 35 años sirvió en el departamento de educación como maestra. Ella fue más allá del llamado del deber para servir a sus estudiantes y sus familias. Ahora, durante sus años de retiro y después de tomar recortes de sueldo en su pensión y lidiar con problemas de salud, sentimos que es hora de que ella pueda obtener la ayuda que necesita.
Mis hermanos y hermanas, queremos apelar a su sentido de solidaridad y pedirles muy amablemente y de favor, nos ayuden para poder cubrir con los gastos de limpieza de su casa, comida, ropa, y lo básico que necesitará para volver a casa. Extendemos nuestro sinceros agradecimientos por su pronta respuesta y atención a este asunto, ya que cualquier ayuda es muy bien apreciada.
