Help Ma Delta Save her Home!

Tax deductible
Ma Delta needs a new nest to raise her future eaglets.

Who is Ma?  Ma is the bravest eagle we know; she is a courageous no-nonsense survivor, a truly wonderful eagle mom, and a loyal mate.  Her will to live and carry on despite many major setbacks has been outstanding.

In 2014, she suffered a painful broken leg but still laid two eggs, and these eaglets successfully fledged.  It was several years before she stopped limping.

In 2015, a Fall storm snapped the nest tree in half, so Ma and Pa’s previous nest was destroyed.  The Hancock Wildlife Foundation made another starter nest nearby. She accepted this nest when she returned from migration a couple of months later.

In 2018, Ma’s mate “Pa” sadly disappeared and she raised two eaglets on her own. She endured attacks from stranger eagles in the area, but still kept her eaglets safe and both fledged on time. Ma then chose a new mate that we called Trooper.

Sadly, last month Trooper went missing and Ma is now being courted; many males are vying for her attention. Will any of these become her new mate? Only time will tell.

Ma’s current nest tree has dead or dying branches; some have completely snapped. There is no place to add additional support and the tree is rapidly falling apart.  Several recent storms have made the nest even more precarious.

With a bit of luck, this nest might last until summer, but maybe not!

At the time, this was the only tree available, and there are no other trees large enough within a one-kilometer radius.

Almost 20 eaglets have been raised here, and this nest is a community treasure, as the webcams installed here broadcast the nest and chick activity to the world.

We need funds to replace the nest and reinstall the cams.  One of the cameras is perilously hanging by its cord.  Our goal is $25,000. The work would be done in August, when the birds are off on migration.

Please help Ma Delta keep her home; no eagle deserves it more. Help Us Help Her!

Thank you in advance.
